“Tips-for-Tots” is the Wood County Child Welfare & Protection Board’s major annual fundraiser. It will be held for the fourth consecutive time at A.J.’s Fish House Restaurant on Lake Fork from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday, August 6th . During the event we enlist well-known “celebrity waiters” from across the county to host and serve the tables. All of the waiters’ tips plus the money generated from a raffle, live auction, and bake sale will contribute to the fundraiser. In 2017 we were able to raise over $22,000 with the event. We hope to exceed this amount this year. One-hundred percent of the money raised by this event will go directly to serving the foster children of Wood County to fund expenses not adequately addressed by the State’s Foster Care system. We believe that these added benefits are important because many of the children have been subjected to unhealthy or abusive environments prior to removal of their original homes. The Board and others who support the children want them to experience some of the benefits that children from healthier family environments are normally accustomed. Though we are not provided with specific information about any of the foster families, we know that some fall into low-income brackets and simply cannot afford to provide the children under their care with all these benefits. We use the money raised by Tips-for-Tots and other donations in the following fashion: Initial Clothing Allowances - $100 for each child removed from their homes to help get their necessary clothing until the State’s Foster System begins funding. Back to School - $200 per school age child in Child Protective Services (CPS) care to help with back to school clothing and school supplies Christmas- An average of $200 per child in foster care to get at least the top item on their Christmas wish list as well as a party with Santa there to deliver their gifts. Monthly Allowance - An age appropriate allowance for each child to spend as they wish. Birthday Money - $25 per child given on their birthday to be spent as they wish Special Requests - Help to provide items such as senior rings, prom activities, summer camp fees, beds, infant equipment and other items needed to help provide a “normal” life for these children. Rainbow Room – support and maintenance of this emergency supply facility and supplement of needed items not donated. The Wood County Child Protection Board, Inc., the fundraising arm for our Board is a 501(c)3 charitable organization. Its Tax ID is #33-1092195. We do not receive any federal or state subsidies that support the above programs and actions. We thank you for your support of this important event, and especially for helping with financial support for the often abused and neglected children who are under Wood County’s CPS care!
